Spotted Eagle Owl
Sighted on: 01.April.2024
Our guests got to see a Spotted Eagle Owl during the night drive. In the harsh conditions of the Kalahari, Spotted Eagle Owls have developed eyes adapted to their challenging environment. Their eyes feature large corneas and pupils that can dilate widely to maximize light intake during the desert's scorching days and pitch-black nights. These adaptations help them hunt efficiently despite extreme temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight during the day. Also, their eyes possess specialized oil glands that protect against dust and sand, which are common in the arid Kalahari landscape. These adaptations ensure that Spotted Eagle Owls can maintain clear vision and continue their hunting activities even amidst the harsh conditions of the Kalahari.
