Red-crested Korhaan

The highlight of the week was the broken-wing display of a Red-crested Korhaan. On our morning game drive, we were fortunate to spot a female Red-crested Korhaan, and as we got closer, she began performing a broken-wing display—a fascinating and selfless behaviour used to lure potential predators away from her chick. Following her distraction display, we spotted a single, well-camouflaged chick near the roadside. Alone and blending perfectly into its surroundings, the chick stayed completely still—an instinctive tactic to avoid detection by predators such as jackals, wildcats, and birds of prey.
