Fork-tailed Drongo

Sighted on: 30.December.2025

Lioness protecting a cub from an unknown male

At a shallow Kalahari waterhole, a Fork-tailed Drongo was observed standing at the water’s edge on the right-hand side of the pool. The bird’s glossy black plumage, bright red eye, and characteristic forked tail were clearly visible as it paused to drink.

In the background, a starling moved confidently along the water’s edge. Its iridescent blue-green sheen and vivid orange eye stood out against the pale sand, creating a striking contrast between the two species.

Both birds shared the water source peacefully, taking turns without signs of aggression—an excellent example of mixed-species tolerance at essential water points in the Kalahari.
