Lioness
Sighted on: 06.February.2024
We encountered a female lioness hunting during a Morning Game Drive in the Gham Dhao Private Game Reserve. This solitary hunting behaviour suggests that the lioness has adapted to the arid conditions of the Kalahari. In such harsh environments with scattered prey and limited water sources, lionesses may choose to hunt alone. This strategy increases their chances of catching smaller prey, reduces competition within the pride for resources, and helps them adapt to periods of food scarcity. The observation highlights the lion's ability to thrive in challenging conditions by employing flexible and individual hunting tactics.
