Lilac - breasted Roller

This week, the Kalahari gifted us one of its most colourful characters.

There he was, sitting quietly on a lonely branch, watching the world go by. The Lilac-breasted Roller never tries too hard… yet somehow steals the whole show. With those soft lilac tones on the chest and that unbelievable turquoise belly, he looks as though he were painted by the sky itself.

What I love most is how calm they are. They sit patiently, almost thoughtful, scanning the ground before suddenly bursting into flight, flashing blues and greens like a living jewel in the air.
