Leopard Tortoise

Sighted on: 23.January.2024

Lioness

The highlight of the week was the sighting of a Leopard Tortoise. Leopard Tortoises are fascinating animals, they are well-adapted to semi-desert environments, and commonly found in savannas, grasslands, and arid regions of Africa. These tortoises are primarily herbivores, feeding on a variety of grasses, succulents, and other vegetation. They have a slow metabolism and can go for long periods without water, relying on the moisture content of the plants they consume. Observing these tortoises in Gham Dhao Private Game Reserve during the rainy season provides a unique opportunity to witness their behaviour and adaptations to the changing environmental conditions. It is essential to appreciate and protect the diverse wildlife that contributes to the ecological balance of ecosystems.
