Lions

For the past two days, our guests had one wish above all else—to see the legendary Kalahari lions. Every safari drive brought wonderful sightings, including a memorable day trip into the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, but their hearts remained set on finding the lions.
On their final morning at Evolve Back, after an early continental breakfast, Guide Boxer and Tracker Secco committed to an intense tracking effort. Following fresh hunting tracks and navigating challenging off-road terrain for nearly two hours, their determination was rewarded. They located the dominant pride of thirteen lions feeding on a freshly killed zebra.
Soon after, Boxer radioed the sighting so that Joey and I could bring OUR guests to share in this unforgettable moment. Smiles, excitement, and cameras captured memories that will last a lifetime. It was a perfect ending to an incredible Kalahari safari, proving once again that patience, teamwork, and expert tracking make all the difference.

Ground Squirrel

During our Central Kalahari Game Reserve day trip, one sighting not to be missed is the ground squirrel. A true symbol of the Kalahari, this agile and social species is remarkably well adapted to the harsh desert environment. Often seen standing alert beside its burrow, keeping watch for predators, it adds charm and character to every safari experience.

Lion

Stealth, rather than speed, is the lion's preferred hunting technique. Their tawny coats blend almost perfectly with the dry grasses and dusty soil of the Kalahari, allowing them to approach prey unnoticed. This morning, a lone lioness was observed patiently stalking through the grass, demonstrating this remarkable hunting strategy.

Southern Giraffe

This morning's game drive offered wonderful views of two iconic Kalahari browsers.
The giraffe was seen browsing on fresh leaves, demonstrating its remarkable feeding adaptation. The blending giraffe unique coat pattern, which helps with individual identification. Their patches also assist with heat regulation through an intricate network of blood vessels.

Greater Kudu

The greater kudu, accompanied by its calf, was calmly feeding in the thickets. The calf's large ears provide excellent hearing to detect approaching predators, while the distinctive white stripes along its body help break up its outline in dappled light, offering natural camouflage among the bushes.
A peaceful morning showcasing the remarkable adaptations that help these beautiful animals thrive in the Kalahari.

Lion

As dusk settled over the Kalahari, a solitary lioness emerged from the shadows and made her way to the lodge waterhole to quench her thirst.
The calm water mirrored her every movement, creating a striking reflection that captured the quiet beauty of the moment. The red-filter spotlight allowed us to observe this magnificent predator naturally, minimizing disturbance while preserving the magic of the encounter.

Brown Hyena

At 02:12 AM, our trap camera captured two brown hyenas visiting the lodge waterhole. Their quiet appearance in the stillness of the Kalahari night is a special reminder that the wilderness remains active long after sunset.
