The Puff Adder
Sighted on: 17.June.2026

One of the most commonly encountered snake species in our reserve during the winter season. Known for its beautiful sandy coloration, it blends perfectly into the Kalahari landscape through excellent camouflage.
A slow-moving snake, often found near road edges or lying in the middle of the road sunbasking. Despite its calm nature, it is one of the species respected for its powerful cytotoxic venom, capable of causing severe tissue damage. A beautiful reminder that in the Kalahari, stillness can hide incredible adaptation.

Bat-Eared Foxes
Sighted on: 17.June.2026

Caught this pair out on one of our sandy tracks just bordering the low scrub. They were completely dialed in, using those massive ears to listen for harvester termites and beetles moving just under the soil. Seeing them active like this during the softer daylight hours is always a treat, especially with those sharp, raccoon-like facial markings catching the light.

Black-Backed Jackal
Sighted on: 17.June.2026

This clean profile shot during our day trip into the CKGR. This solitary jackal was just sitting quietly in the tall, golden grass, soaking up the sun and squinting into the heat. With its ears forward and listening to the open plains, it was a classic look at just how beautifully their silver-grizzled "saddle" helps them fade right into the Kalahari brush.

Leopard
Sighted on: 17.June.2026

This one took some serious squinting! I spotted this beautiful leopard draped comfortably over a branch, completely tucked away in the thick green canopy of a large tree to beat the midday heat. It had an unbelievable vantage point over the savannah below. Only its intense gaze and a few patches of its rosetted coat gave it away through the leaves easily the highlight of the week.
