Lion
Sighted on: 22.May.2024
During our afternoon game drive, we observed a pride of lions feeding on a zebra carcass. This encounter highlighted their remarkable adaptations to the arid Kalahari environment. The lions efficiently consumed large quantities of meat, obtaining vital moisture from the zebra's blood and bodily fluids, crucial for survival in this dry landscape. The feeding hierarchy was evident as dominant males ate first, followed by females and then cubs. This efficient consumption strategy and the ability to extract moisture from their prey reduce their dependence on scarce water sources, demonstrating their incredible resilience in the harsh Kalahari conditions.
