Greater Kudu

Lioness protecting a cub from an unknown male

On today’s game drive, our guests encountered the elusive kudu, which thrives in the reserve's characteristic vegetation. These large antelopes are known for their secretive behaviour, often freezing if startled, allowing their distinctive markings—thin, vertical white lines along their bodies—to blend perfectly with the dappled environment. This unique camouflage breaks up their outline, helping them disappear against the backdrop of trees and bushes. When threatened in open areas, their first response is to dart into thick bush, where their camouflage is most effective, making them nearly invisible among the shadows and foliage. Spotting a kudu in its natural habitat is truly a remarkable experience for our guests.
