Giraffe
Sighted on: 11.October.2023
Our guests enjoyed watching a Giraffe drinking water from one of the water pans on a morning Game Drive. It's fascinating to see how Giraffes bend over when they drink water. The giraffe splays its front legs and lowers its head to reach the water. However, hypertension could send blood surging into the brain, and the animal could collapse from a stroke. To overcome this problem, giraffes have a clever system of valves which regulates blood flow to the brain. The Rete Mirable, or 'a wonderful net', keeps blood from rushing to the brain.
