Slender Mongoose, Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill, Kalahari Apple-leaf & Vulture

The day brought us another wonderful cross-section of life in the Central Kalahari, ranging from small canopy dwellers to late-afternoon silhouettes against the sky.
We spent time watching a Slender Mongoose navigating a low tree fork, pausing balanced between the thick limbs to get a clear line of sight through the undergrowth. Nearby, a Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill perched in the shade, giving us a crisp view of its curved yellow bill and the distinct pinkish bare skin around its throat and eyes. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a photograph of the hornbill.
On the botanical side, we noted the Kalahari Apple-leaf pushing out its delicate purple-pink blossoms, a soft splash of color against the pale bush veld. We wrapped up the day watching a solitary vulture perched atop an acacia branch, perfectly silhouetted as the evening sky turned a warm golden-orange.
