Green-winged Pytilia

A brown hyena stands alert on a sandy path in dry brush, looking toward the camera.

A small bird noticeable its green wing feathers and “Pytilia” is the scientific genus name for this group of small African finch-like birds this common name essentially describes a Pytilia with green wings.


One of the fairly common residents, dependent on surface water, hence absent from much of the Kalahari. prefers dry mixed woodland, thickets, riverine bush and accacia bushveld.


Actively feeds on insects especially termites

White - backed Vulture

Sighted on: 04.October.2026


A brown hyena stands alert on a sandy path in dry brush, looking toward the camera.

A pair of White-backed Vultures was photographed perched on top of a Purple Pod Terminalia tree. A nest visible between the two birds, although neither bird was inside the nest at the time of the sighting suggesting possible nesting activity, although the nest contents could not be confirmed.
