Southern penduline tit
Sighted on: 24.September.2024
It was an incredible experience to spot the nest of a Southern penduline tit (Anthoscopus minutus), a species renowned for its impressive nest-building abilities. These tiny birds, with their short tails, small fine bills, yellowish underparts, green backs, and grey heads adorned with a delicate black-and-white scaly pattern, create intricate, pouch-like nests that enhance the beauty of the trees. Often made from fine plant fibres and spider webs, their nests are true works of art. Seeing one during a game drive is a rare and awe-inspiring moment, especially against the open sky and the blurred grasses of the Kalahari. Witnessing such natural craftsmanship is a reminder of how even the smallest creatures contribute to the splendour of the wild.
