Wildebeest

Sighted on: 03.September.2025

Lioness protecting a cub from an unknown male

During our morning game drive, we paused for coffee while the bush came alive with the enchanting calls of birds. Suddenly, the deep, rhythmic call of a lone wildebeest bull echoed from the north. Intrigued, we listened carefully — the persistence of his call hinted at something unusual.

After finishing our tea and coffee, we followed the sound. Just a hundred metres ahead, we found the bull standing alone. A closer look at the ground revealed fresh tracks — clear evidence that a group of lionesses had recently chased the herd. Separated and unsettled, the bull was calling desperately, hoping to rejoin the others.

Moments like these remind us that every sound in the wild carries a story — one of survival, resilience, and the delicate balance of life in the Kalahari.
