We recorded a fantastic predator encounter during today's game drive across the reserve.
During the drive, we encountered a young lion standing alert along the bushveld edge. The individual paused among the dry acacia brush, stepping forward into an open clearing while intently scanning the surrounding terrain. Guests enjoyed clear, unobstructed views of its watchful posture and keen expressions, providing a great look at young predator behavior in the Kalahari.
Observing young lions actively patrolling vegetation margins offers valuable opportunities to interpret territorial awareness, hunting development, and pride movement patterns.

Swallow - tailed Bee - eater

We recorded a fantastic avian sighting during today's game drive across the reserve.
During the drive, we observed a Swallow-tailed Bee-eater (Merops hirundineus) taking flight over an earth mound along the open clearing. Guests enjoyed a clear view of its bright green plumage, blue lower back, and signature deeply forked tail flared mid-flight as it hawked for insects near the ground.
Watching these agile insectivores perform hawking displays offers great insight into bird hunting techniques and dry-woodland ecosystem dynamics in the Kalahari.

Lion

We recorded an exceptional predator sighting during this morning's game drive across the reserve.
During the drive, we encountered members of the lion pride feeding on a kudu carcass in the light brush. Guests had incredible close-up views of a young lion stalking through the dry grass toward the vehicle before returning to feed alongside the rest of the pride, offering an incredible look at pride social dynamics and natural feeding behavior.
Observing apex predators at a fresh kill provided a fantastic opportunity to discuss Kalahari hunting strategies, carcass possession, and territorial behavior.

Steenbok, Greater Kudu & Impala

We recorded several quality ungulate encounters during yesterday's game drives across the reserve.
During the drive, we encountered a solitary Steenbok ram stepping directly onto the open sandy track, standing alert with its large ears flared and short, upright horns clearly visible. Later, at the waterhole, we logged an impressive gathering featuring fully grown Greater Kudu bulls with massive spiral horns drinking alongside an impala, offering guests a great view of mixed-species waterhole interactions.
Observing both small, territorial antelopes like the steenbok and large browsers gathered at water points provided an excellent opportunity to discuss territorial marking, water dependency, and anti-predator vigilance in the Central Kalahari.

Greater Kudu

We logged a great sighting of a young Greater Kudu bull during our game drive across the reserve.
We spotted the bull stepping out near the edge of the scrubland, pausing in the warm afternoon light with its ears flared, perfectly alert to the surroundings. Guests were able to observe its small, developing spiral horns and distinct white torso stripes blending effortlessly against the thick brush.
Observing young bulls browsing along the bushveld margins provided a wonderful opportunity to discuss social dynamics, horn growth, and camouflage adaptations in Kalahari ungulates before it quietly moved deeper into cover.

Brown Hyena

We had a brilliant encounter with a Brown Hyena during our afternoon game drive today.
We caught up with the individual as it was moving along the main sandy track. It stopped right in the middle of the road and stood there for a few moments, giving us a completely unobstructed, clear view in the soft afternoon light. Guests got a fantastic look at its signature shaggy coat, pale mantle, and striped legs.
Finding Parahyaena brunnea out in the open like this before dusk is always a special highlight given how secretive and nocturnal they usually are. It gave us a great window to talk through their foraging habits and territorial behavior before it casually turned and melted back into the Kalahari scrub.

Giraffe

During today’s drive, we enjoyed a prime observation of a giraffe drinking at the waterhole. We watched as the individual carefully splayed its front legs wide in the classic stance to lower its long neck down to the water's edge. Observing this awkward posture highlights the animal's vulnerability to predators while drinking, offering our guests a great opportunity to learn about Kalahari waterhole dynamics and animal behavioral adaptations.
